Homework


One of the key ways that parents and carers can support their child at school is by getting alongside them when it comes to completing homework tasks. Homework provides a key link between the learning that happens in school and the reinforcement of key skills that can be supported by simple activities at home. Our homework expectations for each year group are as follows:


Beech (Reception)  

  • Reading - sharing books with your child
  • Phonics / letter formation - reinforcement homework related to the phonic sounds taught within the classroom
  • Half termly home learning task


Beech (Year 1/2)

  • Reading - 10 minutes reading aloud every day (this can include reading books but, also other texts)
  • Phonics/ Spelling - - reinforcement of what is taught within the classroom.
  • Times tables (2, 5 and 10s)
  • Weekly set tasks which include Maths and English
  • Half termly home learning task

Willow

  • Reading - 10 minutes reading aloud every day
  • Spelling - regular spelling lists to learn
  • Times tables
  • Weekly set tasks which include Maths and English      
  • Half termly home learning task

Oak:

  • Reading - daily reading practice including some reading aloud
  • Spelling - weekly spelling lists
  • Times tables
  • One piece of English homework each week
  • One piece of Maths homework each week
  • Other subjects - homework linked to learning within the class when appropriate
  • Half termly home learning task

Homework should be handed to the class teacher on the specified day and will be marked and returned later in the week.
