Links with the Community

Our school lies in the heart of the village of Haughley and we are constantly striving to develop the links that we have with our local community.

St Mary’s Church, Haughley – Our close link with the local church is an important part of the life of our school. We welcome Reverend David and Reverend Chris into school every fortnight to lead our whole school worship and also members of the congregation who come fortnightly as part of the Open the Book team. On the first Monday of every month we hold a church assembly where parents and carers are invited to join us at the church for our whole school worship. Easter, Harvest, Remembrance and Christmas are all celebrated with services in the church and we also take part in the Haughley flower festival which is held annually.

Royal British Legion – We enjoy close links with the Royal British Legion who are very active within the village. We regularly walk to the flag pole in the church yard and take part in the flag raising that happens to remember key events throughout the year, such as Trafalgar day and St Edmunds day.  Each year we take an active part in the Remembrance Day services and activities. As a school we participate in an annual Remembrance Service and then share lunch with members of the Royal British Legion. The children enjoy talking to the Royal British Legion members and have learnt a lot about the First and Second World War from their conversations. Last year, we were privileged to take our Year 5 children to be part of the annual Poppy Drop at RAF Wattisham.

Palmers Bakery – Palmers is a famous bakery in our village. Mr Palmer judges our Easter cake decorating competition and the bakery also sponsors our school football team. They have recently paid for a range of football shirts and other kit in order to allow us to look super smart when we play football matches against other schools in the area.
